This cycling holiday offers the opportunity to explore two fantastic Northern European capital cities; Stockholm and Copenhagen. You will also discover the metropolis of Gothenburg and follow the Kattegat route along Sweden's picturesque West Coast.
There is so much to explore on this 7 night cycling holiday, starting with a stroll amongst the cobblestone streets and ochre-colored buildings of Gamla Stan (the old town) of Sweden's capital to discovering the UNESCO world cultural heritage Drottningholm palace, where the Swedish royal family grew up. A train journey (included) takes you cross country to the West Coast and Sweden's second largest city, Gothenburg, a great city to explore. From here you follow the Kattegat route through nature reserves and fishing villages to the end of the Kattegat route in Helsingborg with its well-preserved old town. A short ferry ride takes you to Denmark, visit Kronborg Castle, the setting of Shakespeare's Hamlet before arriving in Copenhagen, home to the Tivoli Gardens and the Little Mermaid.
You stay in a mixture of 3* and 4* well-appointed hotels, with breakfast included throughout.
Your cycle route is on well sign-posted bike paths and gravel roads as well as side roads with less traffic. There are some trails with raw gravel. Short sections are on roads with more traffic. Flat to slightly hilly tour course

Today's ride follows an ancient trade route that has existed since the Viking Age. Skirting along Sweden's third largest lake, Lake Malaren you pass the World Heritage listed Drottningholm Palace dating to the 1600's. Located, right on the lakeshore this is the permanent residence of the King and Queen of Sweden. You can visit the Palace itself and stroll in the park where you will find the Chinese Pavilion dating from the 18th century. Continue across bridges onto the island of Sodermalm and then through the old town of Stockholm, Gamla Stan.

Take a train cross country to Gothenburg, Sweden's second largest city (approx. 3 hours, included). In the afternoon explore the city on foot or discover Sweden's second largest city with a boat tour. Visit the Maritiman museum with 10 ships from various eras and with various purposes ready to explore. Garden lovers can visit Tradgardsforeningen park and for art lovers there is the Gothenburg Art Museum. With so much to explore here please ask our team if you'd like to book an extra night!

Hotel Eggers is one of the oldest hotels in Sweden dating back to 1859. It is a listed building, and over the years has hosted royalty, painters, diplomats, spies, businessmen and women for secret rendezvous as well as grand, important meetings. The calm, genuine Eggers atmosphere has been preserved, with added mod cons and top of the range facilities. Rooms have beautiful wooden floors, and either have a view of the courtyard or the city centre.
You are now following the Kattegat route as you cycle south along the west coast to pass Säro, the former playground of the royal family and Gothenburg high society. Cliffs, lush forests, bays and marinas line your path before reaching Kungsbacka, a cozy small town with a lovely old city that was once part of Denmark.

Hotell Haland is a family run hotel with a modern quirky feel. They have a sauna and bar for relaxing. Each tastefully decorated room features private bathroom with tiled floor, with hairdryer and toiletries. Their restaurant serves Scandanavian and international dishes, and you can enjoy a drink at their cosy lobby during the evening if you wish.
Enjoy the breathtaking view on today's route alongside fields and equestrian farms. Once you reach Asa you follow the coast again to Varberg. As you approach the small town the castle towers over you. Visit the fortress and the Bocksten Man, a medieval man's body from the 14th century found in a nearby bog.

Today your route takes you past picturesque fishing villages where you can see local handicrafts. In Traslovslage you can feast on freshly cooked lobsters and stroll through the older parts of the city. Continue to Falkenberg, one of the oldest cities in the area from where you take the train to Helsingborg (90 mins, not included).

After breakfast take the ferry to Helsingor (20 mins, approx. SEK 70 per person, not included). You have now reached Denmark! Take your time strolling through the picturesque harbour city and visit UNESCO listed Kronborg Castle, the setting of Shakespeare's Hamlet, before you continue along beautiful sandy beaches, wonderful landscape and magnificent smelling forests to Copenhagen, the pulsating capital city of Denmark and bike city of excellence.

Absalon Hotel is a family run hotel, featuring colourful décor by Designers Guild. Absalon’s modern rooms have a desk and flat-screen TV with cable channels. Rooms offer a city view or view of their courtyard. Breakfast is a generous organic buffet, and Danish pastries, gluten-free bread and tasty marmalade are just some of the options offered.
