Where can I go on trekking holidays in Nepal?

Our walking holidays will take you across a variety of remarkable locations in Nepal, from the lush subtropical greenery of the Chitwan National Park to the bustling capital of Kathmandu. Here are some of the exciting destinations we offer:

Annapurna Foothills

The Annapurna region is a magnificent combination of mountain trails and pastures, awe-inspiring glaciers, and views of Annapurna 1, one of the highest mountains in the world at 8,091m. It offers some of the most exhilarating trekking trails in Nepal so is a perfect choice if you're looking for challenging walking tours. And you'll experience the ecologically important Annapurna Sanctuary, where floral and fauna uniquely thrive thanks to the area's remoteness.

Chitwan

Offering something different from hiking and traditional sightseeing, Chitwan is home to the country's oldest national park. Take a safari around this UNESCO World Heritage Site to bring you closer – but not too close! – to rhinos, crocodiles, leopards, Bengal tigers, and rare freshwater Gangetic dolphins.

Kathmandu

The energetic capital city of Nepal, Kathmandu is brimming with unique local culture, ancient monuments, and rich history. Explore iconic Durbar Square, the largest palace square in the country, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Sample local cuisine, learn authentic craftwork on the streets, and visit famous holy sites.

Pokhara

Nepal's second city is a tourist favourite and offers breathtaking views of some of the highest peaks in the world – Annapurna 1, Dhaulagiri, and Manaslu. Alongside plenty of opportunities to hike and explore, visitors can take in relaxing resorts, lush greenery and the clear waters of Lake Phewa.

Frequently asked questions

Is Nepal good for walking?

Nepal is world-renowned for its trekking opportunities and our holidays are crafted to showcase the fun but challenging trails on offer. Whether you are an experienced high-altitude trekker or a beginner, there are hiking trails that cater to different abilities and preferences.

For holidaymakers who don't want to ascend to a high altitude and are building their experience, treks around the Pokhara Valley are ideal. For those looking for something a little more challenging, Annapurna foothills may be more your level.

What to pack for my walking holiday in Nepal?

To enjoy your adventure holiday to the fullest, it's important to pack the correct equipment. While this will largely depend on the terrain and weather, some essentials include:

  • Walking boots
  • Loose-fitting, light-weight clothing
  • Waterproofs
  • Water bottle
  • Hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Backpack

What to wear for my walking holiday in Nepal?

You're going to be on your feet for most of your Nepal walking tours so dress appropriately. The climate is mostly moderate but it can offer months with high humidity and temperatures. You could also encounter snow depending on the location you choose.

Layering is key when hiking in Nepal, so wear layers that are easy to take off and put back on throughout your trip. These include waterproof jackets, down coats, windbreakers and lightweight trousers and tops. Much of the terrain is rocky so comfortable walking boots are necessary.

What is the best month to walk in Nepal?

The best months to embark on trekking holidays to Nepal are between September to late November or February to mid-April. When travelling in the autumn and springtime, you miss the summer monsoon season and can enjoy warmer, longer days. Winters can be cold, particularly at night, in the mountainous areas of the country.

What is the most beautiful part of Nepal?

Nepal is the land of snowcapped mountains, lush subtropical forests and vibrant cities so it is impossible to pick just one beautiful part of the country. Our walking holidays are designed so travellers can experience Nepal's rich heritage, natural beauty, and enthralling culture. From the lakeside resorts at Pokhara to the heaven-on-earth rocky region of Annapurna, this country has it all.

How many days do you need in Nepal?

Our Nepal walking tours are typically 12 nights long to ensure that you can immerse yourself in all the highlights. Depending on the holiday package you select, you can add three nights to explore the Chitwan Jungle National Park.

Is Nepal safe for hiking?

Yes, hiking in Nepal is an overall safe activity and trekking safety is on a par with other mountainous holiday destinations. While it is home to some of the most rugged terrain in the world, popular hiking routes have all the necessary amenities. We recommend sticking to these trails if this is one of your first treks.
