A West to East self-guided walking tour of Lanzarote, starting from Yaiza in the west to Orzola at its northernmost tip. This walking holiday follows a varied and scenic route along the famous GR 131, the long-distance trail across the Canaries. Completed in 2014, this 71.5km long trail was developed to showcase the best of Lanzarote's natural habitat.
From the lava fields of La Geria to the oasis of green at the valley of 1000 palms in Haria, this intriguing island has an infinite range of unique and dramatic landscapes. Discover the influence of the world-famous artist and architect Cesar Manrique who dedicated his life to preserving the traditional architecture of the island. The typical whitewashed houses adorned with green painted doors stand testament to his work.
Take time to relax along the way and enjoy some of the best food and wine in the Canaries. Make sure you try the local specialities, Canarian potatoes, mojo sauce, estofado stew and the delicious boquerones, (anchovy fillets), perhaps accompanied by a locally produced wine, the widely regarded Malvasi - again the result of the rich volcanic soil.
In recent years there has been an island-wide initiative to signpost walking trails and increase rural accommodation options in a bid to increase the number of independent travellers. We believe that the island is best explored on foot and have selected walks that encompass its diverse landscape along with high quality overnights in typical local accommodation.
Your accommodation has been carefully selected and includes family-run bed and breakfasts, to a small hotel restored by Cesar Manrique and a Finca located right in the Timanfaya National Park. Please note due to availability, all accommodation is on request and will be confirmed at time of booking.
Arriving at the airport, transfer to the first hotel in Yaiza (transfer included when flights booked through us or as an optional extra). With its charming white-wash houses framed by the dark lava sea of Timanfaya national park, Yaiza is considered one of the most beautiful villages of the Canaries.

Today is a lengthy but gentle walk which brings you to the colourful village of Uga, where the islands Arabian camels are bred. Continue through the lava fields of La Geria, this intriguing landscape is lined with row after row of volcanic rocks arranged in semi-circles. This ingenious cultivation method is designed to protect the vines from the prevailing wind and has resulted in the area being not only a successful wine-growing region but also recognised for its striking landscape.
You stay at Hotel Rural Finca la Florida.
Finca de la Florida was originally a home built in the 1970's, and converted to a hotel in 1995. It is located on a large plot of land full of vineyards and fruit orchards with 15 spacious rooms all with walk-in showers. Whilst feeling delightfully rural, the hotel is only a short 15 minute drive from the airport, and so is a fantastic base for this holiday.
