TRIP DESCRIPTION

Discover the remote and spectacular archipelago of Lofoten, one of Norway's oldest inhabited regions on this week-long cycling trip. Following a recommended stop over in Oslo, you will arrive into Svolvaer and be instantly transported amongst the most stunning scenery in Europe. From tremendous mountain peaks and fjords, to postcard pretty fishing villages and gorgeous sandy beaches, this region has something for everyone, as you will experience on your journey across the archipelago.

Soak up the relaxing atmosphere on your first day in Svolvaer where you can choose to take a leisurely boat trip to see the Sea Eagles, or get started straight away with one of our cycling routes to nearby picturesque fishing villages. The next morning cycle from Svolvaer across the island alongside the oceanfront for part of your journey to Hov, where you may have the chance to experience the Midnight Sun. From here continue to Leknes with many possible detours to distract you along the way, including the most beautiful beaches in the area. Your last base is Reine, where you will spend two nights in a traditional fisherman's cabin. The cycling is mostly flat with some elevations, so will suit all abilities, E - Bike hire is also available. Your luggage will be transferred for you along the way.

The accommodation is a variety of four star hotels and three star lodges and cabins, some with shared facilities so please do enquire for full details at time of booking. For example the Rorbuer cabins are the traditional and only form of accommodation in Reine, and typically involve shared living areas and bathrooms.

Terrain

The cycling on the Lofoten Islands is mostly on the flat, with gentle inclines and great road networks. The route leads you through lush meadows and along rivers, past small farms and on coastal pathways. You will be cycling between 20 and 50 kms a day, and so do need a good level of fitness and some cycling experience on this trip.
