Be sure to make the most of your time by arriving early or leave late from Amsterdam (or add on some extra nights).

Enjoy picture-postcard scenery as you ride out to the elegant city of Haarlem with its lively main square, museums, art galleries and shopping options. The other rides take in Zaanse Schans with its beautiful windmills and industrial heritage and Muiden Castle with the star-shaped fortification town of Naarden en route.

Day 2: Amsterdam to Haarlem (60km/37.3mi)

Get an early start today and beat the queues at the Van Gogh or Anne Frank Museum. Then, ride to the historic city of Haarlem, with its delightful blend of old-world charm and modern vibrancy. From historic streets with medieval architecture to trendy shops and waterfront cafes. Whether you're a fan of art, history, shopping, or simply enjoying good food and scenery, Haarlem offers something for everyone.

Day 3: Amsterdam to Zaanse Schans (60km/37.3mi)

Cycle along the River Zaan with its quaint old factories and warehouses. Look forward to seeing the beautiful windmills and green houses at Zaanse Schans, a quintessential Dutch experience, in which the 18th and 19th centuries are brought to life. The presence of windmills, Dutch cheese, and wooden clogs conjures images of a bygone era, preserved, and celebrated in this charming village. People still live and work here, keeping alive the oldest industrial traditions of the Netherlands. Explore the museums to learn about old crafts, offering insights into the craftsmanship that shaped the region's identity.

Day 4: Amsterdam to Naarden (60km/37.3mi)

On your last ride, explore a water-rich natural landscape passing through extensive meadows and pastures. Picturesque villages add to the charm, offering opportunities to pause and soak in the local ambiance. As you continue your ride, encounter numerous country estates and fortifications each with their own story to tell. It is worth visiting Muiderslot, which holds a significant place in Dutch history. Founded in 1285, its square design, complete with round corner towers and moat, evokes images of medieval grandeur and fortification. Return to Amsterdam where you can continue exploring the city until your departure. Alternatively, add on some extra nights.

REVIEWS

Fantastic service from first call to booking. Andrew is friendly and very helpful.

Debbie Smith, 7 Feb 2025

So far (booking by a phone call) the experience has been positive. Luke was friendly, approachable, but professional and told me all I needed to know, along with a little more information as well. I was very happy with the service.

Very efficient and responsive

Lesley Calrow, 25 Jun 2024

This was my first booking with Headwater.
Initially my experience of booking was quite negative as I was given incorrect and confusing information at the start being promised things the company could not honour. I was then passed onto another consultant without explanation who initially made things worse. Once passed onto the manager Stephanie Johnson, she was superb in sorting out all the issues and I felt very happing about booking the trip.
