TRIP DESCRIPTION

This 5-night holiday in North Norfolk offers an introduction to this charming region full of natural highlights and historical sites.

You start and finish your holiday just outside Kings Lynn and will ride through low-lying landscapes through traditional villages and along quiet country lanes. After riding along the tree-lined avenues of the Sandringham Estate keen birdwatchers can visit RSPB Snettisham which attracts waders, ducks and geese. The high tide creates a great wildlife spectacle, as thousands of birds are forced off the vast mudflats of The Wash onto the reserve's lagoons. Visit Houghton Hall, once home to Sir Robert Walpole before arriving at your next overnight stop. Head to the Norfolk Coast AONB with its endless beaches backed by dunes and spend the next two nights in the Georgian market town of Holt, from where you can explore more of the coast with visits to Sheringham or Cromer or head to the Norfolk Broads. Accommodation is in a range of 4 star hotels, with on-site restaurants or a choice of places to eat locally.

Terrain

Much of your cycling is along narrow country lanes with the occasional designated cycling path. The cycling throughout this area is relatively undemanding, with many flat stretches, and the few hills that you encounter invariably enhance the beautiful scenery. Take your time on the routes - enjoy the views and visit the sights along the way.

REVIEWS

Overall, I had an excellent time. Norfolk is beautiful and excellent for cycling. I can’t wait to return. And the routes were really excellent for exploring the area.

Mark Buccella, 9 Oct 2023

Well organised trip, good electric bikes, lovely routes, hotels and locations.

Jan Sinclair, 16 Jul 2023

Headwater offer the opportunity to explore a region in the best way possible, cycling. Interesting places to visit and a variety of accommodation and food. Great adventures to be had.

Mr Inkster, 21 Aug 2022

Excellent holiday, especially for visiting places of historic interest

Mr Davey, 21 Aug 2022

Cycling in north Norfolk was a great way to see the area in a bit more detail and offered a good variety of countryside, seaside, country house estates etc to ride through and allowed time to look around if we wanted to. It was great to have the app to tell us our route without having to constantly check a map. The hotels were all very comfortable. Very enjoyable. A few bike issues which was a bit unfortunate but we still had a good time.

Mrs DUNCAN, 3 Oct 2021

A lovely way to see a lovely and interesting part of the country. Our weather was mixed, but that did not prove to be a problem, with a comfy and welcoming hotel waiting at the end of each day. Universally, we were given a warm welcome, and the navigation app was a boon : we didn't get lost at all.

Mr BLACK, 26 Sep 2021

The cycling was a little harder than we had expected, it is rated 1+ but could perhaps have been a 2. One bike that was originally supplied was really in need of a service and was not very good. Having said that once I mentioned this it was changed the next day and the replacement was fine. The shower in the hotel at Holt was very weak but we were told that the water pressure in the area is very low. The last day of cycling is quite tiring though there are quite a few potential stopping places. Overall this was a very good holiday. We used to cycle daily to work but having retired and so cycling less we found this a little more of a challenge.

Mr DAVIES, 19 Sep 2021

An enjoyable holiday in a part of the country we have never previously visited.

Mr WOOD, 15 Aug 2021

Great experience from booking to departure! Pity about the weather - we got drenched on the first day!

Mr BETTS, 27 Jul 2021

A wonderful way to see the beautiful Norfolk countryside.
