ITINERARY

TERRAIN

Day 5 - Arenal Volcano Trail - This is one of the most popular hikes near the volcano. There are two main routes:
- Las Coladas Trail: about 2.5 km (1.5 miles), takes around 2 hours, easy to moderate difficulty.
- Bosque 1968 Trail: about 4.5 km (2.8 miles), takes around 3 hours, moderate difficulty.
Elevation gain for both routes ranges between 100–200m. As this is a shared group excursion, the guide chooses the best trail according to the group’s ability.

Day 7 - Tenorio Volcano National Park - The main trail to the waterfall is an approximately 6km round trip. It involves around 218m of elevation gain including steps up to the waterfall. The hike usually takes 3–4 hours including time for stops at the main attractions (waterfall, lagoon, hot springs, “Teñideros” where the river turns blue).

Day 9 - Selvatura Park - The hanging bridges reach heights up to 60m above the forest floor. The eight bridges span a 3km trail through the cloud forest.

Day 11 - Manuel Antonio National Park - Up to 4 hours walk at a moderate pace and level. This will be aorund 10km.

Megan was helpful and did a good job explaining everything to me.

19 Dec 2025

Excellent holiday. Everything went smoothly. The hotels were very good and all the people from local partner Slow Active Travel were well organised and helpful, with good communication. The walks were as described and the app worked really well. Would thoroughly recommend Headwater. In fact we have booked another trip with them already.

16 Apr 2025

The booking experience with Headwater was excellent. I was assisted by Luke who was able to guide me through the options as this will be my first walking holiday. Luke was brilliant at taking the time that was needed to ensure that the holiday met my needs. I have yet to go on the holiday and will review when I do.
