Day 3: Mondsee to Bad Ischl 41km/26mi

A lovely route today, following the scenic shore of Mondsee with views across to the Drachenwand, an amazing rock face that towers above the lake. You might then choose to take a little detour to pretty Unterach, which was a favourite of Gustav Klimts, and where he drew his inspiration for many of his paintings. Your route then takes you along the shores of stunning Attersee, the largest lake in the area. From there follow alongside the stream up through the beautiful wooded valley with glimpses of the impressive Hollengebirge mountains, to Mitterweibenbach. Here you follow the cycle route, with a short downhill section on road, before riding alongside the river on a cycle path into Bad Ischl.

Day 4: Bad Ischl to Mondsee 43km/27mi

Today's route takes you west along the river, on quiet inland roads to the lovely lakeside village of Strobl. Here you can extend the day by taking an optional 9km detour along the northern edge of the lake to St Wolfgang, an historic pilgrim's town, renowned for its beautiful 15th century church. From Strobl, a dedicated cycle path next to Lake Wolfgang takes you to St Gilgen, an attractive town famed for being the birthplace of Mozart's mother. From there continue on the cycle route to pass the beautiful little lake Krottensee, then alongside the shore of Mondsee back to Mondsee itself.

The Hotel Goldener Ochs boasts a prime location in Bad Ischl's pedestrianised town centre and sits on the banks of the Traun River. It features a spa, sauna, swimming pool and sun terraces with mountain panorama.

The hotel dates back to 1791 when it started life as a small butcher's shop and during the town's emergence as a Spa Town with its brine baths, the Goldener Ochs became a rest stop for stagecoach travellers. Eventually becoming a guesthouse and ultimately a 4-star hotel, the Goldener Ochs retains some of it's historical roots in the decor throughout the property.
