Winter walking holiday in Italy: Snowshoeing in Villabassa
  • Sophisticated **** hotel with indoor swimming pool and wellness centre: sauna, solarium and steam room
  • Exquisitely presented cuisine; renowned Michelin-recommended restaurant
  • Fully accompanied snowshoeing programme in the heart of the world-famous Dolomites
  • Spectacular mountain scenery: snow-thick forests, pretty lakeside villages and the beautiful Fanes-Sennes-Braies Natural Park
  • Mountain hares, baby deer, eagles soaring overhead

Set against the amazing backdrop of Italy’s most stunning mountain range, in the beautiful village of Niederdorf-Villabassa, **** Hotel Adler is the perfect choice for Headwater guests looking to combine snow-sure activities with high levels of comfort and luxury. The attention to detail here reflects 400 years of traditional, family-run hospitality: heated pool recliners, soothing steam saunas and massages to soothe any aching limbs!

During the day, your guide will lead a series of snowshoe trips geared to beginners or people with limited experience. As snowshoeing requires no special skills, lifts or groomed trails, you’ll get the hang of it very quickly and will soon be off exploring unspoilt corners of the mountains few tourists ever see.

Over the course of your week, you’ll discover pretty forest trails and walk along old military tracks to reach magnificent viewpoints such as Durrakopf (2275m) and Strudelkopf (2307m). Wonderfully gentle routes will take you into the Fanes-Sennes Natural Park, along the shoreline of Lake Braies and beneath the impressive Three Peaks. As you stop for lunch (included on 5 days) you’ll absorb the Dolomites fascinating World War I history, and enjoy breathtaking views across the Alta Pusteria Valley and out towards the Austrian frontier.

When you’re not exploring, you can relax in the hotel’s state-of-the-art wellness centre where you’ll find a gorgeous indoor pool, steam and Finnish saunas or, if you’re still wanting to be active, perhaps try your hand at downhill skiing at nearby San Candido or on the world-famous slopes of Cortina d’Ampezzo.

In the evening, expect to sample regional specialities exquisitely crafted by Michelin-recommended head chef, Helene Markart, and served in the atmospheric, wood-panelled dining room. After dinner, there is a cosy lounge, or you can join the locals in the hotel’s popular bar.

Please note that this holiday is managed locally by our sister company, Exodus.
