TRIP DESCRIPTION

Beyond the sun, sea and sangria there is an undiscovered side to this holiday island that offers peace and tranquillity. To the north and northwest of the island is a limestone mountain range, the Sierra de Tramuntana with many peaks rising to over 1000m and culminating in the Puig Mayor at 1447m. Mallorca has over 300 miles of coastline with an abundance of picturesque coves and inlets where the mountains meet the sea. Springtime brings beautiful sub-alpine flowers to enhance your walks on the slopes below rocky mountain summits. Lower down paths are scented year-round by lavender and wild thyme. Pretty, unspoilt villages offer a rural idyll, with twisted olive trees and orange and lemon groves are on every corner.

Your base for the week is the coastal village of Port de Soller, separated from the rest of Mallorca by the UNESCO World Heritage Sierra de Tramuntana mountains. With its narrow streets and enchanting buildings, this old fishing harbour is the perfect base from which to explore the island. The historic train that connects the capital Palma and Port de Soller is a must! Originally introduced in 1912 to transport citrus fruit from the Soller valley to the capital, it offers an unforgettable experience from which you can enjoy the diversity of landscapes that the island offers.

We have crafted a sample itinerary for you that would be easy and relaxing to follow, but you will be able to create your own selecting your walks from over 10 options, with different levels and directly on our navigation app.

REVIEWS

As the weather was vey hot, which we would normally have no problem with as we love the heat, we did fewer of the walks than we might have done had it been cooler. We did, however, do some shorter walks in and around Port de Soller. That is in no way a criticism of Headwater, just a fact of the weather.

As I’ve already said, we did not realise that nearly all the walks involved a tram or a bus or a train, or a combination of them, and we would not want a holiday that was so reliant on local transport in the future.

We did, however, like Port de Soller, and the hotel Aimia.

Michele Jonas, 11 Sep 2023

As I said earlier, we have enjoyed many happy trips with Headwater over many years. However, as I said on an earlier page, the route notes seriously need some attention in our opinions. Although they read well enough, the sentence construction suggests they were written by a local with local knowledge. To us, they appeared unclear and sometimes inaccurate. In the end we devised our own walks. Staff at the hotel were fantastic, Megan at Headwater was most helpful and we shall almost certainly book with you again but the itinerary needs looking at.
