New Mountainous Moments for 2023

There’s something special about the mountains that brings a new perspective to everything else that’s going on. It could be their spectacular yet peaceful beauty, with sparkling waterfalls, imposing craggy rocks and hues of emerald green grasslands. Or perhaps, it’s their sheer size that enables us to feel humble and a part of something greater. Whatever wonderfulness walking in the mountains brings for you, we’re sure you’ll love our new trips for 2023 where you can enjoy their magnificence to their fullest. Here are three of our favourites.

See a splendid new side to the Tyrolean Mountains

Famously a winter sports resort, Kitzbuhel is the base for our Walking the Tyrolean Mountains trip. Head here outside of this busy season and you’ll discover a new side of its captivating beauty. The melting snow reveals lush meadows and alpine pastures, while the ice melts and turns into shimmering lakes and rushing waterfalls.

Home to the legendary Hahnenkamm World Cup ski race, the resort has cable cars to ease the challenging climb up to the highest points. At Kitzbüheler Horn, the 360-degree panoramic vista across the far-reaching mountains is breathtaking. Meanwhile, the views down the valleys are speckled with colour from the multitude of alpine plants.

Walk along chain bridges across the gorge waters of the Griesbach ravine, swim in the refreshing waters of Lake Schwarzsee or discover the route of pilgrims, taking in historic churches and chapels; there’s so much to experience in the Tyrolean Mountains.

Encircle the tour de force that is Mont Blanc

The highest mountain in the Alps and Western Europe, Mont Blanc attracts adventurers from all corners of the globe. But alongside this infectious energy is a compelling history, centring around the Tour de Mont Blanc, one of the oldest treks in the world.

On our Walking Tour Du Mont Blanc, you can explore the highlights of this iconic trail, which reveals outstanding sweeping views across the French, Swiss and Italian Alps. From your base in picturesque Chamonix, venture to the largest glacier in France, the ‘Sea of Ice’, and explore the ice cave. Then, follow the balcony trails to Lac des Cheserys, famous for its picture-perfect reflection of Mont Blanc.

With easy access to cable cars, buses and private transfers, you can explore the wider region, taking in different sides of this lush alpine landscape and the mysterious glacier valleys surrounding Mont Blanc.

Hike for heavenly views of the Elfer massif

The Tyrol region of the Alps offers an alluring combination of dazzling mountain scenery, warm hospitality and accessible walking trails. Staying in the charming village of Neustift im Stubaital on our Alpine Walks in the Stubai Valley trip, you can take advantage of your Stubai Super Card that offers free or discounted public transport to access the nearby trails or visit the enchanting city of Innsbruck.

Take a cable car up Elfer Mountain to discover the largest sundial sculpture in the European Alps. Or visit the incredible 1,000-year-old Stubai Glacier ice grotto at 3,210m, absorbing the impressive views across the Italian Dolomites. You can also stop at Austria’s highest mountain restaurant for well-earned refreshments before continuing to the summit platform for what’s regarded as one of the most beautiful views in the world.

Perhaps you fancy taking a day lower down in the valley. Here, you can follow the intriguing Ruetz river to Bichl and Kartnall, a historical site for farming that still upholds its traditions today.

At Headwater, we love to bring you new extraordinary experiences, ones that you will remember for a lifetime, and we think our new mountainous moments tick this box perfectly for your 2023 adventures.
