United Kingdom: The Cotswolds

Best of the Cotswolds Walk

  • Explore the Cotswolds - England's largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
  • Beautiful villages including Guiting Power, Broadway, and Chipping Campden
  • Visit areas of historical interest from Saxon, Jacobean and Medieval eras
  • Visit the ancient Saxon capital of Winchcombe and Sudeley Castle (last resting place of Katherine Parr, Henry VIII's sixth wife)
  • Stunning gardens at historical manor houses
  • Relaxing walks each day to allow extra time for exploring delightful Cotswold villages

The Cotswolds are England's largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and comprise 787 square miles of meadows and scenic rolling hills above a bedrock of Jurassic limestone. This distinctive stone is quarried and used in the construction of the golden-coloured local buildings and gives the stone-built villages of the Cotswolds a beautiful and quintissentially 'English' look.

This 8 night walking holiday takes you through some of the finest North Cotswold villages with shorter walking days, allowing the maximum time to explore the delightful villages and walk at a relaxed pace. Your route includes visits to some of the best-known towns and villages in the region including Broadway, Chipping Campden and Guiting Power as well as the Saxon capital of Winchcombe and the nearby Sudeley Castle, the last resting place of Henry VIII's sixth wife, Katherine Parr. Enjoy the rolling Cotswolds countryside, riverside walks and some stunning horticultural gems in the gardens of National Trust manor houses, such as Kiftsgate or Hidcote.

Accommodation along your route has been hand-picked in characterful Bed & Breakfasts, inns and townhouses. Offering a warm and friendly Cotswold welcome and hearty cooked breakfasts, they offer comfortable stops along the walk and a charming insight into Cotswold life.

Reviews

Everyone who goes on a Headwater holiday will be emailed a link to our post-holiday questionnaire where they can give us an honest assessment of all aspects of their holiday - everything from how quickly we answer the phone to how clean the hotels were - plus an overall rating and comments about their holiday.

Any feedback collected is posted to our website, so that people can make an informed decision based on past experiences before heading off on holiday. We don’t edit the reviews, the only thing we do is proofread them and alter any typos, where necessary, to ensure they are easy to read for everyone. All reviews will be published (except in certain extreme circumstances), and a member of the Headwater team will respond to any constructive criticisms/comments under the reviews, at their discretion. So, for the real tales, twists and turns of our holidays, look no further than the reviews from our previous travellers.

Mrs LAWSON, 06/10/2021

A lovely circular walk through the Cotswolds

Mr DUGGLEBY, 25/09/2021

An excellent route with excellent route notes. All accommodation was also of high standard apart from the White Hart at Winchcombe which should be dropped immediately.

Mrs FEELY, 24/08/2021

Another very successful Headwater walking holiday. This was the first UK walking holiday we have taken with Headwater and, whilst we did miss the atmosphere of being abroad, given the current Covid-19 situation it was an excellent way of having a change of scene, walking in some lovely countryside, experiencing comfortable accommodation in different villages in our own country. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Mr REEVE, 21/08/2021

Expected more and better accompdation

Headwater response:
Thank you Mr Reeve for your holiday summary, we are sincerely sorry to read your review of our holiday. A member of our team has privately contacted you to discuss further, thank you.

Mrs VOLLER, 05/07/2021

The holiday was excellent with good accommodation and very clear instructions from Hikes and Bikes. There were a few B&B's that we stayed in which aren't on the list above and the Guiting Guest House in Guiting Power was the best of the lot. It was a lovely quiet village after the hustle and bustle of Bourton-on-the Water and the best night's sleep I have had in years and breakfast was excellent - a definite 10/10. Hadley House in Broadway wasn't so good but comfortable and clean and the breakfast was lovely. The Noel Arms Hotel in Chipping Campden was also very good. We have travelled with Headwater 4 times now and will continue to do so. Thank you for being a company that genuinely cares that their customers have the best holiday they can.

Mr SLINN, 02/07/2021

Excellent organisation from the operators, including very detailed maps and directions. However bear in mind that you will be “living out of a suitcase” and pack carefully, don’t take too much stuff, beware you have to walk come rain or shine.

Mrs WOODHOUSE, 27/06/2021

Enjoyable, plenty of time to enjoy countryside.

Mr Grainger, 15/09/2020

An excellent holiday and we feel that a lot of credit should also be given to the local organiser, Hikes & Bikes, with whom you are in partnership. The walks were easy to follow & well explained with photographs where needed. The transfer of luggage was very efficient
