This is certainly true of North Holland, where more than half of this province of huge skies and long distance views has been reclaimed from the sea. This flexible independent cycling tour explores North Holland's superlative mixture of coastal flower fields, sweeping beaches, spinning windmills and heritage rich towns, filled with markets, cathedrals and musical bells. It encompasses Holland's dramatic seafaring legacy - you are never far from water here, as square-rigged clippers, lighthouses and bustling harbour fronts in Volendam and Hoorn testify.

Cycling holidays in Holland

There is nowhere in the world that caters so enthusiastically to cyclists, right down to cyclist - specific traffic lights! Caramel smooth cycle paths make this ideal for families and those seeking easy cycling. Every day except day 4 (Alkmaar to Hoorn, 31km) can be shortened on the train if you wish, while easy to follow signposts combine with accurate maps to make finding your way and extending your route laughably simple. This tour can be done over either 6 or 8 nights (extra nights on the 8 night tour are in Haarlem and Alkmaar). Extra nights are available on request in any of our overnight stops.
