Maps, notes & finding your way

Headwater supply a comprehensive selection of maps, guides and route notes for your independent walking holiday. These are included in the price and are mailed out in advance so that you can familiarise yourself with all the details so that your trip runs smoothly when you arrive. Our maps are professional and highly detailed whilst our guidebooks contain invaluable information on the local area including culture and customs, art and history, flora and fauna.

How our route notes work

We understand that not everyone is a world-class map reader so, on all our walking holidays, our routes provide step-by-step instructions - pointing out landmarks, distances and even highlighting any confusing turnings - so you can be sure of a relaxed journey. We also include detours to places of interest, shortcuts to avoid hills, and places to stop off for lunch too!

Weekly route checking service

Our reps and guides check out the routes and itineraries every week of virtually every holiday in the Headwater brochure to make sure that all aspects of the trip are exactly as described. Occasionally, footpaths are diverted or restaurants close, but our thorough checking of details will give peace of mind to customers that routes have been adapted and updated. At the start of your holiday our reps will point out any last minute alterations and will also offer advice on how to get the best from your holiday.

Guided walking holidays

On our guided walking holidays our expert local guides will lead you through their homelands and share their experiences with you. You won't need a map as they know all the best places to visit! We do provide you with a notes booklet introducing you to your destination so that you know what delights to expect when you arrive.
