3 outdoor Black Friday activities a lot more fun than shopping

So, today is the day that many people look forward to every year – Black Friday. Since 1932, this day has been regarded as the beginning of the Christmas shopping season in the US – and here in the UK we’ve followed the trend. With retailers promoting hundreds of Black Friday deals and bargains online and in the high street shops, consumers literally go mad at this time of year, rushing around to bag discounted items and scrolling through web pages in the hope of doing all the Christmas shopping early whilst saving money.

We believe everyone can make better use of their time and are opting for people to get outside this Black Friday and do some more interesting, fun and relaxing activities. Want to spend your day doing something other than going online frantically trailing through deals, or getting caught up in the masses of shoppers hitting the shops? Here are three fun things to do this Black Friday that don’t involve shopping…

  1. Go for a walk

It doesn’t cost a penny, and you certainly won’t need to extract the plastic from your wallet or purse! All you need to do is wrap up warm, go outdoors and enjoy the fresh air and scenery. Perhaps take a picnic with you, play fetch with your dog, and head somewhere you haven’t been before. Appreciate the great outdoors and all it has to offer, from rushing rivers and sunny skies to warbling wildlife and magnificent mountains. And after your day’s activities on foot, if you’d be interested in exploring further afield, check out our range of holidays on foot  and by bike through central Europe, the Mediterranean, or beyond.

  1. Take a trip out

With most people having flocked to the shops or stuck to their computer trying to bag a Black Friday bargain, places that are usually crowded will be quite peaceful to visit today. Visit the animals at the zoo, the aquarium, a garden centre or head to a local museum or even a theme park – there’ll be smaller crowds and shorter queues.

  1. Visit family

Nothing says you care more than actually being there for someone in person, so rather than spending your time buying presents for yourself or others, go to their house to see them. You could relax over a cuppa or pop out somewhere for a pleasant walk or a drive. Whatever you decide to do, you’ll be in good company and away from the noisy crowds.

And if you’d prefer to stay indoors, then just relax and take it easy at home. Read a book, do some cooking, or, alternatively, have a productive day tidying around the house. Instead of fighting over the latest iPhone or television deal, kick back and let the day unfold on its own.
