Typical itinerary

Day 1

We meet you at Innsbruck airport and take you to your hotel (90 mins).

Day 2

Veronica meets you at the hotel for your first cross country ski lesson. Soon you will be taking your first strides and practising snowplough turns against the backdrop of Monte Serla (2380m).

Day 3

Veronica takes you up the Landro Valley and to Dobbiaco's Lake today. Sheer mountains dominate the snow-thick forest, and snowflakes glitter like diamond dust in the sunshine. After coffee by the lake, swoosh back for lunch then, in the afternoon, there's an easy beginners loop above the village - look out for eagles overhead.

Day 4

Veronica skies with you this morning towards the pretty village of Villabassa. You pass Gustav Mahler's house where he used to compose his music, and enjoy breathtaking Alpine views. After the lesson it's worth continuing along the trail to reach Villabassa's historical centre for lunch, before returning past Tyrolean farmhouses - look out for Alpine hare tracks in the snow.

Day 5

We've left today free for independent exploring. Perhaps take the ski bus to spectacular Val Fiscalina, above the tiny wooden houses of Sesto. A gentle loop runs below five stunning snow capped peaks (all over 3000m). After lunch on a sunny cafe terrace, it's a blissful run back to Dobbiaco - downhill all the way!

Day 6

After meeting Veronica you follow an undulating lakeside trail below Monte Cristallo (3221m), and lunch at one of the trail cafes. The way back's an exhilarating downhill glide through thick snowy birch forest.

Day 7

Your last morning takes in the beautiful Fanes-Sennes-Braies Natural Park where the 1000m high rock walls of Croda del Beco (2810m) circle Braies Lake - look out for baby deer in the forest. In the afternoon choose from several pistes that descend to the Pusteria Valley before returning to Dobbiaco for a final swim and dinner.

Day 8

We take you to Innsbruck after breakfast.

"First rate throughout - our first time with you, but we're now headwater fans!!!"
Mr Wheatley, Kent

"Lovely locations, good mix of comfort and local living, something different. A lovely hotel in a great position. The Fuchs and their staff couldn't have been more helpful."
