Haro is a working wine town built at the confluence of the rivers Ebro and Tiron. It is the growing and marketing centre for the wines produced in La Rioja Alta.

Hospederia de Briñas, Briñas
The hotel is a former 18C aristocrat’s home – the former Count of Cirat’s Palace, where all the furniture seems to be antique.
The wall decoration and murals are done by Polish artist Jull Dziamski. It is run by the owner Angela Gomez.
Each room is different with simple colours and exposed stone walls. Each room also has satellite TV, direct dial phones and tea and coffee making facilities.

Hotel Villa de Abalos, Abalos
A lot of work has gone into Villa de Abalos, and if you ask Jose Luis or his wife Merche, they can show you a photographic diary of the conversion of this 12C nobleman’s house. It is beautifully presented with stone walls and a high central atrium from the second floor, with cast iron banisters of vine leaves on all levels. Merche does the cooking while Jose takes care of the hospitality.
The Bedrooms are spacious, light and modern with wrought iron beds and shuttered windows, with satellite televisions in rooms and hairdryers in bathrooms. Further details on the hotel website.
