This is a 12 night, 2 boot guided walking & safari holiday. It is at the upper end of the scale during the first week with ascents up to 600m per day so you should be a fairly fit and confident walker.
There are a few stretches of Blind Man’s Corner that some people may find vertiginous but on the whole the walking should present no problems, though there are some steep ascents and descents. In the second half of the tour the walks are less strenuous with regards to the altitude.
Walks are on tracks and narrow paths - short vertiginous parts on days 4 and 5. Walkers should be fit and confident. Walking boots essential, poles recommended.
The tour takes you in a route up the eastern side of Lesotho for the first week, doing all the walking in the Drakensberg Mountains that separate South Africa from Lesotho. Amazing dramatic mountain scenery.
From here you move east through to Spion Kop – a famous British defeat in the Boer War in 1900 where we have a guided tour and lunch, before going to the siege museum in Ladysmith and on to the Zulu Battlefield of Isandlwana for 2 nights.
We walk from Isandlwana to Rorke’s Drift with a local battlefield guide here before driving east to the coast and the big safari reserves.
This holiday will suit anyone who likes to experience a different culture, has an interest in history, enjoys fine hotels with superb food along with unspoilt beaches.
The Costa Rica Wildlife Walk also offers 2 boot walking, as well as the opportunity to see masses of tropical flora and fauna.
Non standard departure dates are not possible as this is a guided holiday. it is possible to extend your holiday in Durban at the start of your holiday or with a stay in the Kruger National Park at the end.
It is recommended that you check with your GP regarding vaccinations for this holiday.
Please also check with South African consulate regarding visa requirements.
All the hotels on this trip have tea/coffee making facilities in the guest bedrooms.
