General information:
Independent, 8 night holiday
Tough 2 boot - almost 3 boot walking. Very hilly with challenging ascents and descents, some days are exposed and loose stone tracks.
Good challenging walking, mediaeval hilltop villages, good hotels
Location:
This high level walking holiday explores the lovely Valnerina in one of the lesser-known parts of Umbria. The area, one of the best kept secrets in Italy, is definitely not touristy and is a land of green ridges and rounded mountain tops, of castles and of truffles and olives. There is a profusion of limestone gorges, waterfalls and natural springs. There are wonderful long-distance views, and with binoculars on a clear day you can almost glimpse the sea.
One of the features of this valley is the string of little medieval hilltop towns, testament to the long-running dispute between the Guelphs and Ghibellines. You stay in one of them, Cerreto, and see others including the utterly beguiling Vallo di Nera along the way. There is also time to visit the fascinating Roman city of Spoleto.
Who would this holiday appeal to?
Anyone who is fit and into walking and enjoy stunning scenery. Not for children under 12
Similar to which other holidays?
We think this holiday is similar to the 'marvels of the Madeira' walk as it is a 2 boot walking holiday
Possibility of non-standard departures?
Non Standard departures are not really possible, however, this does operate every 2 days.
