VOLTERRA TO SAN GIMIGNANO WALK (FURTHER DETAILS)

Independent, 8 night holiday, 1 Boot level.

The walking mainly follows reasonably flat strade bianche ( white roads) with some asphalt lanes and partly shaded forest and valley trails. Walking boots are recommended. Strade bianche are mainly exposed, affording excellent views -sunhat essential.

Covering the area between Volterra and San Gimignano this area takes in many of the wine growing areas of Chianti. Based in Tuscany in the western area of the region

Location:
This relaxed holiday explores the timeless countryside between hilltop Volterra and the soaring medieval towers of San Gimignano. You discover landscapes of rolling ochre-hued hills, rows of vines which produce fabulous red and white wines (plenty of opportunity to taste them too!), groves of olives and fragrant fruit orchards. The walking is mainly gentle and follows ancient Etruscan trails, forest paths and panoramic strade bianche. On your Stay Put days you have the opportunity to visit two of Italy’s greatest art cities, Siena and Florence.

Who would this holiday appeal to?
People who want fairly gentle walking exploring the Tuscan countryside. On most days the terrain is fairly flat although there are some reasonably long walks. Those who love Italy, this area of Tuscany won't disappoint as it is scenically stunning- the rolling hills and San Gimignano's towers as a back drop are incredible.

Wine lovers, food lovers, people that want to explore the countryside and combine this with interesting art cities and hilltop towns

Not suitable for those who want completely undiscovered destinations-Tuscany is popular. People who don't like the sun. Those who want tiny family run accommodation, aside from Orgiaglia we'll be staying in hotels-all family run but with professional style management.

This holiday follows the standard pattern of an independent move on holiday with 1 night at the base hotel followed by 2 nights at each of the stops before returning to the base hotel for 1 night.

We could look into non standard departure dates, however clients luggage would need to be moved by taxi. Therefore an extra charge may be involved.
