General information:

Walking details:

Peaceful well marked walks mainly through forests, sunflower fields and along riverside paths. Gentle hills only so no need for a head for heights.

Location:

On this holiday you explore ancient troglodyte villages set in limestone cliffs, fascinatingly painted caves, and the wild wooded valleys and meandering rivers of Périgord Noir, following marked paths linking some of France’s finest fortified châteaux.

There’s no shortage of interest on the way. There are the mediaeval towns of Sarlat and Beynac and a plethora of imposing châteaux on the hilltops and in the valleys. In places like Les Eyzies, and the other sites of Prehistoric Man’s settlement in the area, you can marvel at his early artwork, and see how the troglodytes used to live, hunt and survive.

As you visit some of the finest sights of the region, you’re never far from the Dordogne and Vézère rivers. And, at the end of the day, wonderful meals in charming hotels beckon.

Who would this holiday appeal to?

Best suited to couples, some families with children, and also groups of friends, although singles would also be fine on this holiday.

Similar to which other holidays?

Gastronomic walk in the Tarn.

Possibility of non-standard departures?

Non-standard departures are not possible as this is a repped region, but the holiday runs every other day.

If extra nights are required during the holiday, it is recommended to have 2 nights at a time. This will ensure Headwater's reps can transfer luggage on your behalf.

Other details:

Cycles can be hired for the week for use on the rest days.

Car parking is available at the base hotel in Sarlat. This is free of charge.
