This is an Independent Upper 1 to Upper 2 Boot walking holiday
There is a choice of walks every day, all of which are on well-made, well-signed paths. In places these can be narrow, and occasionally it’s uneven underfoot. Although the 1 Boot walks are mostly along the valley sides, the ascents from the valley floor and the undulating nature of the paths make these walks ‘Upper’. There is more ascending/descending on the longer walks.
There are no significant height/balance/vertigo problems, but some of the paths are rather narrow for those who have not done a walking holiday before. If you feel that this may be an issue for you, please call our sales team who will be happy to discuss this with you.
Walks on this holiday are on well marked paths and tracks. Paths along valley sides are occasionally narrow with steel (usually wooded) slopes below. Walking boots are essential.
Your holiday is set in the beautiful Goms Valley, which was carved out by the Rhone glacier over thousands of years before it retreated. Now the infant River Rhone runs down the valley between the traditional villages, each perfectly preserved and having its own particular identity.
There are many shrines and historic churches scattered along the hillsides here in the canton of Valais, some dating from the 16C. The walking is lovely in spring, summer and autumn; orchids are scattered below the pines and the valley is awash with greens, yellows and purples. (Having said which, the crisp powdery snow and brilliant blue skies of winter take some beating!).
You will enjoy traditional Swiss hospitality and cuisine at the village hotels, and return home with many wonderful memories.
This will appeal to anyone who loves great mountain walking, peace and quiet, striking scenery, pure air and excellent food.
This holiday is very good for groups containing guests of different abilities –you can take short cuts or different routes and meet up later for a well deserved drink!
The local transport network is particularly useful for this, and the spacing of the villages down the valley is perfect, so you don’t have to walk far before there is a chance for a rest.
Picnic tables are set along some of the trails and so are benches so you can take in the views once you have gained some height.
This holiday is similar to our holiday's in Kandersteg, Davos and Oberammergau. As all holidays offer a wide choice of walks for guests of varying abilities.
Non standard dates are possible on this holiday, please call our sales team for more details.
Buffet breakfast and set 4 course menus at all the hotels you stay in.
We're probably a little biased, so here's what our customers say...
"First Headwater holiday & first organised walking holiday - looking forward to our second!"

"We come back to you again and again. The holidays do what they say on the tin."
