WALKING IN REINDEER COUNTRY (FURTHER DETAILS)

HOME > ACTIVITY HOLIDAYS > HOLIDAYS IN NORWAY > HOLIDAYS IN GUDBRANDSDALEN >

General information:
There are one and two boot options every day. The walking is varied and gentle with something for all ages. There’s also plenty of challenges nearby with gorges, waterfalls and over 30 mountain summits up to 1400m.

The landscape was formed in a desert climate many millions of years ago, and the mountains are rounded with gentle climbs.

Plenty of local lakes & streams for the keen angler to explore are located with a few kilometres of the hotel. For walkers, choose between gentle strolls in the plateau area or take your pick of the summits. On days when the weather is not at its best there’s a choice of sheltered trails in the birch forest immediately to the south.

Location:
Venabu fjellhotell is located in the municipality of Ringebu, 932m, by the Rondevegen, road no. 27. It is on the mountain road between the main valleys of Gudbrandsdalen og Řsterdalen, just south of the Rondane national park. This mountain area is called Venabygdsfjellet and is part of Ringebufjellet. An area formerly of many summer farms, it has now developed into a popular tourist area with 1200 cabins, cafés, shops, mountain chapel, cabin hire, several hotels and a year round caravan site. Our nearest neighbours are Lundes Turisthandel and Gudbrandsdal Hotell Spidsbergseter.

What is the countryside like?

Stunning – the hotel is just below the lip of a broad plateau that stretches away to high mountains several km distant. Below the hotel is a steep valley leading down to Otta and behind it lots of flat country trails through pine and spruce woods.

Lots and lots of wildlife – foxes, arctic hare, lynx and grouse. The tracks in the snow each morning are amazing and varied.
