This independent 2 boot walking holiday uncovers the secrets of Sicily's western coast and favourite off-shore islands. In this walkers paradise you'll walk along interest-packed routes, coastal paths and hidden bays. You can visit mediaeval churches and ancient hill villages. Boat trips to neighbouring islands are easily arranged.

Location:
This is a great, relaxed holiday for exploring the contrasts and hidden treasures of Sicily’s western coastline at your own pace. You begin your journey on the Sicilian mainland, in Scopello, with a walking discovery of the Zingaro Nature Reserve. It is a paradise for botanists, ornithologists and sun-worshippers alike, with its myriad of indigenous plant and bird life and plethora of beaches boasting pure white sands and sapphire waters.

On Marettimo you use the network of mule paths to explore this breezy isle. These well-maintained paths are still used today by locals to work their land. There is only one road and hardly any motor vehicles, so the only way to reach the island’s best parts is on foot.

You can also spend one day exploring the smaller island of Levanzo, with its historic Grotta del Genovese, which attests to the presence of man on the island over 10,000 years ago, before returning to the mainland for another great walk.

We don’t think this holiday is suitable for families with young children, as the walking is fairly hilly, the holiday includes a large amount of historical sightseeing and you do spend time on our mini bus (for transfers to walks).

Flora and Fauna- Sicily’s sunny climate means that pretty much anything grows here so there are lots of different flowers: bouganvillaea, eucalyptus, yellow horned poppies, lilac sea rocket, and purple tinged sea holly, dwarf palms and carob trees, orchids, white peonies. Birds - eagles, peregrine flacons, crow, buzzards, kestrels.
