General information:
This two boot independent walking holiday is a stunning mix of coastal and levada walks on sub-tropical Madeira. The first day's walk is along a panoramic coastal path, and the rest of the days by the side of the levadas (irrigation channels) which wind round the hillsides. The levada paths are usually narrow, sometimes earth and sometimes rocky. There are steep ascents and descents every day which make it a bit more testing holiday than the distances suggest.
Location:
This holiday starts in Santana and ends in Funchal.
The levadas (the island's unique irrigation channels) guide you from the wine village of Santana on the north coast to bustling Funchal in the south. Each day on this nature lover's paradise is different. You'll visit small villages like Sao Jorge, Ribeiro Frio and Santo da Serra and busy Funchal.
Who would this holiday appeal to?
This holiday would appeal to experienced walkers who want to do summer or winter walking with stunning coastal and mountain views and to lovers of nature (there's a wide variety of flowers, birds and plantlife, many unique to Madeira).
This holiday is unsuitable for children under 12, for people who suffer from vertigo and for people who are looking for nightlife.
