Location:
The holiday takes place in north east Hungary towards the Romanian and Slovakian border. It is 2.5 hours on the train from Budapest.
The area is beautiful - rolling valleys of beech trees and limestone scars - the whole area is a protected national park. Visitors walk up forested hills and in shallow valleys by tumbling streams and rivers, pretty lakes and high limestone outcrops.
Around the Bukk forest itself are open wheat fields, masses of vineyards and some beautiful towns like Eger, which is packed with castles, cathedrals and masses of history. Toy railways run through several of the valleys, and we will ride on them to reach some of the starting points for the walks.
