This little-known area is ideal for walkers who enjoy beautiful, peaceful countryside away from the hurley-burley. The northern part of the Gredos is at 1500m, and there is easy access to high mountains at 2300m.
The majority of the walks are in the northern Sierra de Gredos, however walking notes are also included for the southern Gredos (700m), which highlights the contrasts between the two.
The walks are on varied terrain. Walking boots are essential, and walking poles are recommended as there are several long descents.
There’s a wide variety of walks of varying lengths from which to choose.
The holiday is based in the Sierra de Gredos, a mountain range to the north west of Madrid in the central region of Castille-Leon. The Sierra de Gredos is a high reaching mountain chain with peaks up to 2500m so the backdrop of mountains to the walks is spectacular.
The area around Hoyos del Espino is characterised by sub-Alpine flora with pines, verdant valleys and limpid rivers. Walks in the southern Gredos are characterised by sub-tropical flora with holm oaks, olives and citrus trees.
People who want to see a different, undiscovered side of Spain. Hardly any tourists come here, especially not British ones.
Bird lovers - the Sierra de Gredos is a bird lovers paradise. Many different species of birds- Red kite, storks, griffon vulture, dipper, greater spotted woodpecker, wheatear, black redstart, hoopoe to name but a few.
Gastronomes - the hotel has an excellent restaurant. Wine lovers will also be happy with the amazing variety of Spanish and international wines available - wine is included on the first evening to introduce you to the extensive wine list.
The walking is similar to that on the 'Secrets of Andalucia' holiday, however this holiday is independent.
This holiday is totally flexible with regards arrival/departure day and can be lengthened or shortened as necessary - please call for details.
Most meals are included; gourmet breakfast, 5 a la carte picnics and all evening meals.
We're probably a little biased, so here's what our customers say...
"Wonderful, wonderful holiday - we have a very challenging diet - coeliac and dairy free. We are very happy if a hotel manages to omit gluten and milk however limited their offering or however repetetive. Every single meal we were presented with was delicious, thoughtful and varied food. We are good cooks ourselves and we were humbled by the intelligence and care that went into adapting every part of their gourmet menu. Thank You. "
