HIGHLIGHTS OF RIOJA CYCLING (FURTHER DETAILS)

HOME > ACTIVITY HOLIDAYS > HOLIDAYS IN SPAIN > HOLIDAYS IN LA RIOJA >

General information:
This is an independent gentle cycling holiday through a region of Spain few tourists ever see. The cycling is relaxed and mostly undemanding and even in summer it's not too hot.

The unspoilt landscape is characterised by rolling vineyards, ancient villages, hidden farming hamlets and mediaeval ruins.

There are great wine tasting possibilities too!

Location:
This holiday starts and ends in Haro.

You will cycle through the area of La Rioja Alta, in the main centre of wine growing in the valley. You'll start in historic Haro from where you follow the River Ebro to Cenicero. This wine town boasts several excellent bodegas. From Cenicero you cycle through the valley of the Ebro to San Millan de la Cogolla, where you'll spend the night in a stunning monastery. Via Casalarreina, surrounded by pretty villages and lots of castles, you cycle back to Haro.

Who would this holiday appeal to?
This holiday would appeal to anyone who is looking for a gentle cycle holiday in a non-touristy part of Spain, with the possibility to taste some of the best wines of the country and stay over in good hotels.

Similar to which other holidays?
This holiday is similar to the Dordogne Gastronomic Cyling holiday (France), the Abbeys and Vineyards Cycling holiday and the Classic Burgundy Cycling holiday (both in Burgundy, France).

Possibility of non-standard departures?
There are no possibilities to book this holiday on non-standard departure dates. However the holiday does depart every 2 days from May to October, so there are lots of departure dates possible.
