This is a upper 1 cycle holiday
St Didier to Beaumes de Venise is very easy, totally flat and of a short distance, the next section from St Didier starts with a fairly steep 3km climb but is then lovely and flat for the rest of the day to Vaison.
On day 6 when you cycle from Vaison to Cairanne it is really easy, mainly flat.
Then the final day from Cairanne back to St Didier it is mostly flat but is a slightly longer distance.
(if it were not for the climb on the second cycling day and the distance on the last day, this holiday would be at a lower end of the 1-bike).
This holiday provides a delightful insight into Provence as it used to be - and into the lives of some of the people who live there today. You start and finish at our base hotel, located just outside St Didier. In between you stay near Beaumes-de-Venise, in Vaison-la-Romaine and Cairanne.
Set between the barren windswept Mont Ventoux and the lacy silhouette of the Dentelles de Montmirail, this cycling holiday offers the best of both worlds - breathtaking scenery all around combined with easy pedalling on plains and gentle foothills dotted with lavender, orchards and vineyards.
The area is steeped in history. Originally Celtic, it was conquered by the Romans and is now rich in well-preserved Roman remains; and the large site at Vaison-la-Romaine is comparable to Pompeii. Scenery, cuisine, culture, history - you're sure to return home with memories to savour.
This holiday appeals to clients who enjoy excellent food and wine.
We feel this holiday is similar to Loire Gastronomic holiday in terms of the food, the gentle cycling, (although there are a few climbs). However the scenery is far more dramatic.
Non standard departures are not possible, as this is a repped region. If arriving on a bag run day then arrivals wouldn't tie in with the holiday.
Extra nights at the beginning or the end of the holiday are possible. Extra nights can also be taken in the middle of the tour providing it is for a minimum of 2 nights.
Continental Breakfast and Evening Meals are included on this holiday
We're probably a little biased, so here's what our customers say...
"A very attractive area; in terms of both the scenery and history. Another successful holiday with Headwater (Our 6th trip!)"
Mr R Inge, Surrey
"We have always found your holidays consistent in maintaining good standards."
Mrs Berry, High Wycombe
