The hamlet of Les Marécottes sits high above the Rhone, very
close to the French border and tucked away in the little
known Valley of the Trient, deep in the canton of Valais and in
the sunniest region in Switzerland.
The village itself is an enchanting contrast of wobbly hay lofts,
rickety old barns and immaculate chalets sporting intricately
carved balconies bright with red geraniums. And the vast
network of paths is perfectly signposted, impeccably maintained
and ideal for all tastes.
The *** Hotel Aux Mille Etoiles is a traditional Swiss chalet,
beautifully renovated with 25 en-suite rooms and a large indoor
swimming pool. It is really cosy, with comfortable sitting areas
for reading inside and a gorgeous ‘sun bowl’ terrace outside. It is
very much a family atmosphere. Ingrid Mol and her husband
{Hansruedi, the chef, own the hotel and speak excellent English.
There is a four-course feast every night in the wonderfully open
dining room, and a walking newsletter is provided every
morning. There is a little shop right on the square or you can
order your picnic straight from the hotel. The walking is
independent with a map and detailed instructions, and Ingrid is
a passionate mountain enthusiast who will take great pleasure in
sharing her local knowledge with you.
