This relaxed walking holiday discovers the cultural richness
and natural beauty of Slovenia. Justly named “Europe
in Miniature” you’ll find Italianate churches, Austrian style
wooden villages and Venetian harbours standing side by side. Its
compact nature makes for a surprisingly varied week: from
discovering Ljubljana’s medieval market place, to sailing across
Lake Bled in a pletna (Slovenian style gondola); from being aweinspired
by balcony views of the Alps to simply savouring a
cappuccino on one of the many pavement cafés lining the pastel
coloured houses of Piran’s Italianate harbour. And there’s so
much history too: Bled’s 1000 year old castle, the site of the
bloody WW-1 battle at Kobarid, Ljubljana’s Art Nouveau
architecture it’s like lots of different countries all rolled into one!
Our partner in Slovenia is the well respected company, M Tours,
who have been operating in the region for seventeen years.
Together with one of their knowledgeable and enthusiastic guides
– normally Saso or Marko – you’ll learn about the folklore and
history that makes up Slovenia’s fascinating heritage. The gentle
walks that they lead you on sum up the flavour of this varied and
diverse region. At Piran, you enjoy a coastal stroll along the
shoreline lapped by some of the clearest seas in the Adriatic. Then
the azure waterfalls and limestone gorges of Kobarid are perfectly
juxtaposed with the gentle swaying vines and plum tree studded
valleys of Vipava. Travelling times between each hotel are not too
long – typically between 1-2hrs – so there’s plenty of time en route
to relax and soak up the sights and sounds of one of Europe’s
most individual countries. You stay in *** and **** hotels
throughout, two out of four of which have pools. All are special
but our imposing fin de sičcle lakeside hotel at beautiful Lake
Bled, and our friendly hotel in Piran next to its pretty marina, are
particular highlights.
