Our new guided walking tour of Peru is an amazing journey of
discovery, taking in incredibly vivid landscapes that form the
backdrop for Peru’s dramatic history of Inca rule and Spanish conquest.
After a night in the capital Lima, we spend two nights in the blazing desert
oasis city of Arequipa (2380m), where dazzling white lava stone houses
bask under perpetually blue skies. We explore the historic centre and walk in crimson desert, before driving up to the yawning Colca Canyon – the deepest on earth – for four nights in a welcoming lodge (3500m). Three dramatically contrasting walks take us from tawny grasses and copper green canyon walls in the shallow upper valley, to the gaping chasm downriver where condors soar below us. It’s then on to discover Inca myths and legends on a city tour of Cuzco (3500m) where we stay for two nights. We have built in a free day to explore markets fizzing with colour and noise, before we spend the next two nights below silent snow-capped Andes in the Sacred Valley. A panoramic riverside train ride takes us to Aguas Calientes below fabulous Machu Picchu for the next two nights, and we return to Cuzco to end the tour.
We stay in atmospheric colonial mansions in Lima, Arequipa and Cuzco,
and gorgeous riverside lodges in Colca, Urubamba and Machu Picchu.
Meals are included except in Arequipa and Cuzco.
