Walking on Capri is ideal for the less experienced or
occasional walker. You follow dressed stone steps or
mule tracks with pretty ceramic signposts that guide you past
citrus groves and houses decked with bougainvillaea. Each walk
covers a unique corner of this small island, with its own coastal
views and historical interest.
Capri only has two towns: Capri
and Anacapri. There is an efficient, frequent bus service between
the two so you can start your walks at different points, walking
as much or as little as you want to see the best of this fascinating
island. The suggested walks also include one on the Sorrentine
peninsula with views back over Capri, but there are enough to
keep you on the island all week. What makes the walking extra
special here is that apart from the main roads connecting the
two towns, there are few other roads so everyone gets about on
foot. The paths are peaceful and traffic free save for locals
returning home with their shopping. When you aren’t walking,
there’s lots to do. Pompeii and Herculaneum are day trips and
nearby coastal towns of Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi are a
short ferry ride away.
You stay at the Hotel Mamela, an elegant **** residence near
historic centre of Capri town. With a stunning outdoor
swimming pool, tropical gardens and panoramic sun terraces, it
simply exudes style and luxury. Rooms all have air conditioning,
minibar and satelite TV. Each has a private sea-facing balcony
affording stupendous coastal views. A sumptuous buffet
breakfast is included, but other meals are left to you. With so
many fine restaurants right on your doorstep, you’ll be
completely spoiled for choice!
