About the Loire
You’re right in the heart of classic Loire Chateau country here: Beauregard (4kms), with its rare 16th century kitchen and portrait gallery is magnificent; the chateau at Cheverny (7kms) is a 17th century grand family house with a wonderful white stone façade, and original furniture and fittings; in mediaeval Blois (12kms), there is a way-marked walk around the historic royal sites including the amazing chateau, with its famous octagonal staircase. Other 'must see' sights include Chambord (25kms), Chenonceau (30kms) and Amboise (40kms). Wine-tasting opportunities are numerous too and, if you bring your car, we’ll recommend the best places to stock up before you head off home!

Auberge du Centre

Tucked away in the elegant little village of Chitenay is the lovely ivy-clad Auberge du Centre, run by Gilles Martinet and his team – the food here is superb! Dinner is served either in the pretty dining room, or on the terrace – Gilles is a keen wine buff, and will happily advise on the best local tipples! All bedrooms have been recently modernised and Headwater guests are always accommodated in superior rooms with bath.

How to get there

In order to really get the most out of any stay here, a car is essential (you can borrow bikes from the hotel if you fancy pottering about on two wheels for a change) so we suggest either that you bring your car across the channel, or that you fly/Eurostar into Paris, either hiring a car at the airport, or taking the TGV over to Tours (less than an hour) and picking up a car here to avoid navigating around Paris. We’ve based ours sample prices on 2 nights, however any stay can be tailor-made to suit with extra/fewer nights to suit your individual holiday plans.
