Cycling holidays

Burgundy's 6-night Abbeys & Vineyards Cycling holiday is now available departing 1st, 9th, 11th, 15th, 19th, 25th, 29th and 31st August. Very gentle cycling, totally unspoilt routes, world-famous food and wine!

Relaxed cycling along rural backroadsIf you have 8 nights to spare, then the Classic Burgundy Cycling trip is a great choice: interest-packed routes, undemanding cycling, lots of cultural and historic appeal. Available 1st, 7th, 9th, 11th, 13th, 19th, 29th and 31st August.

If you are looking for a slightly longer 10-night holiday, then our Classic Lot Cycling route is packed with pretty little villages, great bastide towns, sleepy faming hamlets - even in high summer you're unlikely to meet any other tourists! This holiday is currently available departing 5th, 9th, 11th, 15th, 17th, 23rd and 27th August.

France's Loire Valley offers the flattest cycling in our programme - perfect if you've not been on a bike for years! - as well as outstanding wines, world-famous chateaux and lovely hotels. Our 6-night Loire Gastronomic Cycling holiday currently has places on 23rd, 25th, 27th, 29th and 31st August, while the 8-night Chateaux of the Loire Cycling trip is available on 19th, 25th and 29th August.

Lots of picturesque villages en-routeIf you fancy the idea of Italy and are tempted by the idea of luxury hotels at the end of your cycling days, then consider Piedmont, a highly sophisticated region brimming with softly rolling hills, sun-drenched hamlets and boundless vineyards. The Gastronomic Barolo Cycling holiday departs 15th, 19th, 23rd, 27th and 31st August.

Or perhaps consider Venetia. The cycling here is incredibly gentle and takes you way of the tourist trail, so even in August it won't feel busy. The Villas & Vineyards Cycling route takes you through cherry orchards, vineyards and picturesque villages where every visitor is a novelty! Currently available 1st, 3rd, 5th, 9th, 17th and 27th August.

Lakeside cycling routesHeading across into central Europe, the route that follows the Danube from Passau to Viennais one of the most popular cycle paths in Europe - and is a great choice for a family cycling holiday. Highlights include last years EU capital of culture, Linz, UNESCO-celebrated Krems and mediaeval Melk. Limited availability mid August.

Perfect too for families and first-timers, the 8-night Swiss Lakes Cycling route explores the unspoilt Swiss Jura region on the French border - in the distance you can even see Mont Blanc on a clear day! Departs 7th, 13th, 17th, 23rd and 25th August.



Walking holidays

If you don't want to travel too far, then Brittany's Emerald Coast Walk offers beautiful dramatic scenery, and is hardly touched by tourism. Currently available 27th, 29th and 31st August.

French chateauxThe Loire Valley is also easily accessible from the UK and benefits too from a lovely temperate climate - rarely too hot for walking. Headwater's Chateaux of the Loire routes take you through flat river valleys, well-tended vineyards, colourful poppy fields and pretty parkland. Departs 17th, 19th, 23rd, 25th and 31st August.

Our guided Valleys & Volcanoes Walk is based in the tiny village of Les Estables, in the heart of the French Massif Central. It is real "escapist" mountain country walking, and represents exceptional value for money. Places still available on 8th, 15th and 22nd August.

Provence is one of France's most visited regions - and with good reason! We do still have a few dates available for the Landscapes of the Luberon walking holiday: at the moment 21st, 25th, 27th and 29th August.

If you like the idea of combining some gentle small group walking with some sightseeing, then the 10-night Highlights of Tuscany tour is a glorious mix, and introduces you to some of Italy's finest Renaissance cities: Florence, Siena, Lucca and San Gimignano. A few places still available on 11th and 25th August departures.

Unspoilt Tuscan countrysideFor the chance to really get under the skin of Tuscany, the Secrets of Siena Walk takes in the best part of southern Tuscany and represents an exceptional value-for-money holiday. Currently available 1st, 3rd, 9th, 15th and 27th August.

You can really get away from it all on the 7-night Secret Tuscany Walk, based in the lush green hills of Tuscany's Alto Mugello. We've currently got four places available on 28th August departure - and we're offering a discount of £150 per person off the published brochure price!

Few places can stir emotions quite as intensely as Umbria, one of the most beautiful corners of Italy, and a sun-drenched landscape of lush forests, hilltop villages, jasmine-scented hamlets and panoramic views. Little wonder St Francis loved it so much! Follow his path on the Footsteps of St Francis walk staying in wonderfully friendly hotels - fabulous pools at all. Available 1st, 15th, 17th, 19th, 25th and 31st August.

Madeira offers a lovely constant climate and is perfect for year round walking. On the independent Marvels of Madeira holiday, you'll explore the islands' unique series of levadas, with landscapes varying from cultivated vine terraces and verdant slopes to cliff-top white hamlets overlooking the sea. Departs 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th August.



Canoeing and activity holidays

The peaceful Dordogne RiverCanoeing on France's Dordogne Riveris one of the most popular holiday choices for Headwater families with teenagers. It's a very gentle option - there are no major weirs and the flow of the water does much of the work for you! Choose from a canoe or kayak, and options to have bikes for all non-canoeing days. Departs 3rd, 5th, 9th, 15th, 21st, 23rd and 27th August.

If you prefer the idea of "staying put" for a week, then the Aveyron Activities holiday is worth considering. We include complimentary Headwater bikes for the duration of your stay, plus fully researched cycling and walking route notes. There are plenty of other activities too: canoeing, kayaking, riding, wine tasting. Currently available 21st and 28th August.
