The Headwater "lite" range is a selection of new lower-priced
holidays still packed with traditional Headwater quality and standards. What we
have done is to add keenly-priced new late availability holidays in France and
Italy - mainly aimed at people still looking to get away late summer/ autumn.
In both countries, the long summer days continue right through until October
and the evenings should be warm and pleasant. It's harvest time too - olives,
chestnuts, mushrooms - and you'll see people out collecting bark from the cork
oaks. The vineyards are a blaze of flaming orange and russet.
Our new "lite" walking and cycling holidays range from 4-10 nights
and include B&B hotel accommodation, maps, route notes, 24-hour
on-the-ground support and the transport of luggage between hotels. In order
that you have complete flexibility, we have left evening meals and travel
arrangements to you - if, however, you wish for these to be included, it's no
problem, we'll just apply the relevant supplements. We have not quoted for bike
hire either for cyclists - as many people like to bring their own - however
bike hire (with panniers) can be bought from us for just £10 per day. As
numbers are limited, and we expect demand to be higher, we would recommend that
you book as soon as possible.
Auxerre to Avallon Walk
This is one of France's best rambles, following the GR13 south - part of St
Jacques' route to Compostela. Our 8-night walk is fairly gentle taking in
riverside paths, historic villages, vineyards and cherry orchards. Easy air and
rail travel via Paris, or self drive.
Classic Burgundy Cycling
Burgundy has been synonymous with gastronomy and good living since Roman times
and visitors during September / October will see the world-famous wines being
harvested. As well as being a gastronome's paradise, Burgundy is also packed
with historic and cultural interest: quaint mediaeval towns, superb Renaissance
chateaux, beautiful Gothic churches and Christendom's finest Romanesque abbey
at Vezelay. Easy air and rail travel via Paris, or self drive.
Classic Lot Cycling
This relatively unknown region, with its pretty villages, forgotten valleys,
lush green meadows and beautiful meandering rivers, is firmly part of the South
and has a distinctly Mediterranean feel. It may only be a couple of hours away
from the honey-pot attractions of the neighbouring Dordogne, but the feel is
completely different. This is "real" France where friendly farming
folk work their land - patchwork quilts of vines and maize - bordered by
dramatic cliffs and awesome gorges. Best air options: via Toulouse or Rodez.
Barbaresco to Barolo Cycling
This 8-night cycling holiday explores the beautifully undiscovered
Piedmont region in Italy where, in autumn, the countryside is a glorious mix of
gently rippling, wave-shaped hills cloaked by layers of vines, crowned with
honey-hued hamlets and imposing Savoy castles. Famous for it's fine food and
wines - Barolo, Barbaresco, etc - Piedmont also offers high quality
accommodation including an elegant C18 villa. Air-rail works best via Milan or
Turin.
Catalan Classic Walk
The unspoilt Catalan coast - well away from the main tourist hubs - is ideal
for out-of-season walking and, with departures until late October, it's a
perfect autumn break. During your 6 nights with us, you'll walk along pretty
coastal paths, through lush green valleys and beautiful sandy beaches.
There are lots of villages en route for lazy lunches, and all hotels have
either swimming pools or are by the beach. Optional extra nights in
Barcelona are always popular too for people wanting a combined country / city
break.
Vineyards and Villages Walk
The world-famous wine region of La Rioja is little known and a glorious mix:
mediaeval villages, hidden hamlets and riverside towns housing castles,
churches nad chapels steeped in history. The vineyards and age-old wine
bodegas are pretty special too and represent exceptional value for money!
Details of all the above holidays are available on our website,

your individual arrangements will be provided on request - just give our
