Lake Worthersee is the undisputed jewel in the crown of Austria’s Carinthia, and is the largest Alpine lake in Europe. For unrivalled lakeside views, a stay at the luxurious **** Hotel Hubertushof in Velden is a must, so we have included 2 nights here for walkers on our NEW Carinthian Walking Tour. Providing all the facilities one would expect of a high quality establishment, the hotel also has an indoor pool and spa as well as its own private decking area where guests can bathe in the limpid clear waters of the Worthersee.
The Kaiserstuhl (meaning “Emperor’s Chair”) is the range of hills in south-west Germany, just over the border from French Alsace, and along the route of our Rivers & Vineyards cycling holiday. Its mild climate has resulted in its being known locally as the “Tuscany of Germany”, and you’ll find terraces of vines plus a wealth of wild flowers – including 33 different orchids in June. In our opinion, the best views are from the dining room at Hotel Kapuzinergarten in Breisach am Rhein where, in fine weather, the room is opened up allowing you to eat dinner under the stars. Magical!
Hotel Le Grand Jardin is a gorgeous six-room, family-run hotel set in lovely tranquil grounds in the heart of Provence’s Beaume de Venise vineyards. Each of the cottage-style bedrooms opens onto a private terrace and garden, and meals are taken on the vine-covered poolside terrace.
Perched on a high, sunny terrace facing the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau peaks, the traffic-free mountain village of Murren nestles at the foot of the Schilthorn and is a highlight of our Jungfrau Peaks & Glaciers Hiking tour. Headwater walkers spend two nights at *** Hotel Alpenruh and have the opportunity to take a cable car to James Bond’s revolving Piz Gloria restaurant for 360° views over Germany, Italy and Switzerland.
Quintessential Tuscan views – rolling hills, endless vines, beautifully preserved honey-hued hamlets – are simply breathtaking from **** Hotel Le Fonti, start and end point for our Classic Chianti Cycling holiday. Located just below the Porta dell’Arco entrance to Volterra, a real Etruscan gem in the heart of the pretty Era Valley, the hotel also offers two swimming pools and solarium.
