Employee of the month

The votes are in, and the counting has been done… and we are very pleased to announce that Claire Woodall our ‘Overseas accounts manager’ has been crowned this months ‘Employee of the Month’!

Our winner, Claire, who has recently suffered a badly broken ankle, has “put her best foot forward” and still made it to work each day to do her job, as well as managing to keep smiling throughout!

When the “battle broke out” this month to win the prize, everyone who voted for Claire knew she would win because of her hard work and dedication, shown not only recently but over the years, they knew nobody else “stood a chance” this month… So with that in mind who will be next months Employee of the month?!

Congratulations Rob!

We are really pleased to hear that Rob (our accounts manager) and his lovely wife Karen have given birth to a baby boy. ‘Matthew Peter Duxbury’ was born yesterday at 13.36 and weighs a perfect 7lb 9oz! We hear everybody is doing just fine, and we hope to meet little Matthew very soon!

10 years older…

I started work for Headwater way way back on 3rd August 1998. I really can’t believe where the 10 years have gone !

I had come from a business travel background and had vast experience in the retail sector as well, so I was looking forward to the challenge of working for a tour operator.

Having spent years commuting into Manchester ,it was wonderful to have a job on my doorstep so I could walk and cycle into work and to work for a company selling one of my favourite pass times.

My time here has been enjoyable, challenging, and as no one day is the same, certainly not dull. I work with a great team of people, can wear my jeans to work and get to see some fab places as a bonus. Long may it continue!

Happy 10th Birthday Karen- From everyone at Headwater, the place wouldn’t be the same without you!

The ‘Race for life’ girls…

First of all I would like to say a huge congratulations to anyone who has completed one of Cancer research’s ‘Race for life’ 5k runs this year! It’s a huge achievement so well done all!

If you haven’t completed one of the many races yet, then you really should, they are such good fun, and the atmosphere is very heart warming and you really do feel part of a fabulous cause!

Everyone completes the ‘Race for Life’ for different reasons- for some it is a very memorable time which takes a lot of courage, and for others it is a time to celebrate, not just for the fact that they have completed the race but also because they have won their personal battle.

For the girls at headwater it was the 2nd year they have joined in with the race, and this year they ran at Arley Hall, on the 6th July, the venue was great- spirits were high, the run was fairly flat, it didn’t rain (Mr weatherman’s predictions were wrong!) and all the girls completed the race in super time!

It’s my 21st birthday!

Wow I can’t believe that today marks my 21st birthday at Headwater (obviously I started at a very young age!). It’s gone so fast but I can honestly say that I have enjoyed every single minute - how many people can say that about their job, eh?

It all started in June 1987 when my school careers officer told me that I needed to go for an interview for the experience even though I had my career all mapped out - college, university and then travel the world. I dutifully went along to the interview at Headwater, and to my surprise got the job. I took the job initially just for the school holidays but loved it so much that I ended up staying!

During my time at Headwater I covered lots of different areas from working in reservations, to product research (this was my favourite role, but didn’t really mix when I had my 2 daughters Tiger and Daisy) and now in my current role as Sales Manager. I’ve also had the privilege to follow my passion of travel and have travelled extensively throughout Europe (if anybody has any specific questions about any of our European holidays then please don’t hesitate to contact me, tina.delahunty@headwater.com, if I haven’t been there I can put you through to somebody who has!) this is when I also discovered my love for walking.

The country that I love the most though is Portugal (I set up the original ‘Heart of Portugal holiday’) and so am delighted that we have introduced ‘Contrasts of Portugal Cycling‘ to our program. I love the fact that you are never far from the mountains or the wild Atlantic sea and the people are wonderful too sharing our British sense of humour!

So thank you Headwater and here’s to the next 21 years!

Employee of the month..

Congratulations to Michelle Roberts; who has today been nominated as ‘Employee of the Month’ here at Headwater.

The sales and administration team took the decision to introduce the ‘Employee of the Month’ as a way of thanking the team for their continued hard work, as well as highlighting individual efforts and achievements in the office.

This is a first time that Headwater has offered this award, and the response from everyone involved has been really pleasing, with every member of the sales and administration team gaining at least one vote from their colleagues!!

Michelle; who is the senior administration consultant here in our office won the award for the continued help and support that she has shown to her colleagues as well as always smiling and for being the official ‘event organiser’ for headwater. She has also demonstrated excellent customer service, and dedication to her job. Well-done Michelle, from everyone at Headwater!!
Now because of the popularity of the award, Headwater has now opened the voting up to the whole office!!

So Headwater…The heat is on… who will be Julys employee of the month?…

Euro 2008- Whats happening now…?

Well here at Headwater it’s down to four left standing in our office sweepstake, France along with the Swedes (that was my interest gone) didn’t make it out of their groups so we went into the knockout stages.

The quarter finals went against prior form in the groups and the Germans, never write them off in tournaments, went through along with Turkey, Russia and Spain - finally beating the Italians who played the only way they know how to do (penalties from the start).

In a surprise twist all the semi-finalist teams were drawn by current or former members of the Headwater admin team - I would suspect a conspiracy or fix (if I hadn’t organised the draw).

Let us know if your in with a shout for your sweepstake or have a proper bet riding on the Euros - we know one of our reps backed Russia and is looking quite good for a win at the bookies at the moment.

Well a couple of nights off football now while the TV soaps get back to normal scheduling, the Mrs will be pleased.

Toulouse is in Manchester!

Tomorrow night 7 of us from the Headwater office are off to Toulouse!!!…. Well, actually a hotel in Manchester, which is said to have been transformed into Toulouse (for the night)…

We are promised: Cocktails and canapés (Toulouse style), the feeling of flying an A380, as well as lots of prizes and fun….

It all sounds very exciting, and as well as all the fun and games, it is a night for learning more about Toulouse and what it has on offer as a destination. It is especially important for us as we offer a selection of holidays*, which fly into Toulouse as well as offering hotel accommodation there.

We are hoping to learn a lot more about the destination in order to be able to sell to our customer more confidently.

Euro 2008- what a muddled up bunch!

With the Euro 2008 well underway, and England all ready out of a chance of winning this years final and the players enjoying holidays or getting married - we are assuming Wayne Rooney arranged the date after England didn’t qualify - here in the office we are not (too) upset by the news, as we have a Euro 2008 Sweepstake with everything to play for!

As the countries were drawn out of a hat not everyone got the teams they would naturally support…

We have Alessia our newest recruit and only Italian member of our office praying for Russia to win, we have our general office staff rooting for Croatia to win, and Nicole our operations executive cheering on Turkey- who by the way is from the Netherlands! But Nicole can’t be hoping for the Netherlands to win as Kerry our (British) overseas agent had already picked them out!

What a mixed up bunch we are, but its all good fun, and it is certainly raising ‘team’ spirit here in our office!!

Who have you got you’re money on, to be this years euro 2008 winner?

Would it be the form teams so far i.e. Netherlands & Spain or have they peaked too early and will there be an unexpected winner such as Sweden…

A very special birthday…

This year we are really proud to be celebrating a 40^th birthday…four members of staff have each been working at headwater for 10 years - Karen Probert, Karen Ross, Helen Booth and Kerry Briers.

So to say a huge ‘congratulations’ and a massive ‘well done’ we are going to celebrate with a very special joint 40^th Birthday party!
We are still in discussion on where to hold then party! Some of the suggestions have been:

A night at a comedy club,
A trip down the River Dee,
or a day at the Races…

We will well let you know when we have agreed on our venue and on our date!…
