You could argue that the first time Bing Crosby crooned “White Christmas” he put Vermont on the map as a winter wonderland. But the Americans’ love affair with Vermont has been going on longer than that. There’s something magical about a Vermont winter: endless virgin evergreen forests powdered with fresh snow, frozen lakes sparkling in the sunlight, wood smoke curling from the chimneys of dark timber maple sugaring houses, holly wreathes brightening up the verandas of white-washed clapboard houses – this is winter as you’ve always dreamed it could be.
Our base is right in the heart of the Green Mountains that give Vermont its name (coming from the French verts monts), just outside the historical town of Plymouth.
Birthplace of Calvin Coolidge (who became US president in 1923), the tiny town’s pretty much as he left it. The surrounding frozen lakes, wooded hills and river valleys contain a wealth of cross country and snow shoeing trails. Yet there’s more besides: ice-skating on natural ponds, snow mobiling through towering pine forests and romantic sleigh rides through the driven snow. We have included all of these activities in our programme so you really appreciate the beauty of Vermont. Let it snow!
