Great choice for walking holidays

The Austrian Tyrol offers some of the finest walking in the Alps with routes to suit all levels and abilities. There are also plenty of sightseeing options on your doorstep too: nearby Seefeld is a lively and chic cosmopolitan resort; the fascinating mediaeval city of Innsbruck is just 40 minutes away, alternatively you can go to the top of the Zugspitze by cable car.

Activity holidays in the South Tyrol

Our walking holidays are based just south of the German border, in the beautifully unspoilt Leutasch Valley, in the shadow of the country’s highest mountain, the Zugspitze (2962m). Here, the broad, flat-bottomed floor – a wonderful legacy of the last Ice Age - provides easy walking trails past tiny hamlets of pretty frescoed houses and onion-domed churches, all against a backdrop of rocky peaks. It is civilised walking too, with perfect signposting, mountain lifts and cable cars, trailside benches to admire the views and wayside restaurants with sun trap terraces for lunch.

For intermediate level walkers looking for more challenging routes, there are more than 450kms of trails, many accessible directly from the hotel, and the paths are rarely busy. You only need climb 400-500m for exciting and rewarding walks with magnificent views of the jagged snow-capped mountain ranges all around.
